Intersections

this chalk drawing brought participants into the spatial field and opened up new intersections and conversations outside of the lecture hall where intersecting conversations were taking place.

this work was commissioned by the architecture department lecture series at the university of pennsylvania school of design. installed outside of meyerson hall as a temporary drawing it looked to engage with the public and speak to larger issues of representation and the marking off of space. three conversants, james corner of field operations, the artist matthew ritchie, and julie beckman of KBAS studio contemplated and conversed about their work and the intersections running through their ideas and methodologies.

the primary work was a large scale plan drawing of the high line, which is located in new york cIty and a very successful public park designed and implemented by field operations. running from the doorway across the major platform of meyerson hall the chalk drawing drew participants into the field of the drawing and opened up new intersections and conversations outside of the lecture taking place within the building.
