Mid-semester gold!

Gregory has been interviewed about his new position at LSU here.

It is the Fall of 2021, and Gregory has started a new full-time tenure-track position at Louisiana State University, College of Art and Design, in the School of Interior Design.

In the Spring of 2020, Gregory will be teaching Post-Disciplinary Design At The Edges of Tomorrow in the Upper Division Interdisciplinary Department at California College of the Arts.

Gregory recently took part in the Experiential Design - Rethinking Relations Between People, Objects, and Environments conference at Florida State University, in the department of Interior Architecture & Design with his abstract and presentation, Space, Message, Experience: How Artist/Architects/Designers Engage Installation As a Medium For Activating the User/Participant in Multi-Sensory Perceptual Events. He presented a combination of research work and images of student installations, in addition to his findings and theories developed over the past five years in a course of the same name, that was run at California College of the Arts in the Interdisciplinary Department. He will also be preparing a research paper in reference to this topic for the international research organization and its academic journal Architecture_MPS (Architecture_Media_Politics_Society).

In the Fall of 2019, Gregory will be teaching Materiality & Space 1 in the Interior Design Department at California College of the Arts, as well as Form & Space in the BArch / First Year program. He will also be teaching Post-Disciplinary Design At The Edges of Tomorrow in the Upper Division Interdisciplinary Department.

Gregory will be leading a Photo Walk at the Apple Store in San Francisco, CA on May 6, 2018.

Photo Walk: Multimedia Collages with Gregory Hurcomb

Learn how to transform images and sketches into multimedia art with designer Gregory Hurcomb. He’ll present current work from his studio and discuss analog vs. digital construction. You’ll head out on a 1.5-mile walk and capture photos with your iPhone, then overlay and adjust your shots using iPad and Apple Pencil to create a digital collage of your own. Devices will be provided.

Gregory has just started an Artist in Residency at The Sally and Don Lucas Artists Residency Program (LAP), a prestigious Residency program located at Montalvo Arts Center in Saratoga, CA.

In the Spring of 2019, Gregory will be teaching Design Media 2 in the Interior Design Department at California College of the Arts, as well as Form & Space in the BArch / First Year program. 

In the Fall of 2018, Gregory will be teaching  Space, Message, Experience and Post-Disciplinary Design At The Edges of Tomorrow in the Upper Division Interdisciplinary Department; and Design Media 3 in the Interior Design Department at California College of the Arts.

In the Spring of 2018, Gregory will be teaching Materiality & Space 4 in the Interior Design Department at California College of the Arts, as well as Form & Space in the BArch program. 

In the Fall of 2017, Gregory will be teaching  Space, Message, Experience and a new course entitled Post-Disciplinary Design at the Edges of Tomorrow in the Upper Division Interdisciplinary Department; and Design Media 3 in the Interior Design Department at California College of the Arts.

In the Spring of 2017, Gregory will be teaching a new course entitled Sight Beyond Sight in the MArch and BArch programs at California College of the Arts. He will also be teaching a new course entitled Extraordinary Workplace Design in the Interior Design Department at California College of the Arts.  

In the Fall of 2016, Gregory will be teaching Perceptual Shifts for the first time in the MFA Design Department; as well as a new course entitled Space, Message, Experience in the Upper Division Interdisciplinary Department; and Design Media 3 in the Interior Design Department at California College of the Arts.

In the Spring of 2016, Gregory will be teaching a new course entitled Beyond Everyday Prototyping at California College of the Arts this semester in the Interior Design Department. 

In the Fall of 2015, Gregory will be teaching Design Media 3 at California College of the Arts this semester in the Interior Design Department. 

In the Spring of 2015, Gregory will be teaching an Engage course as part of the Center for Art and Public Life's program for collaborating and connecting with community groups in the Bay Area in the Interior Design Department at California College of the Arts this semester. This course will construct a final prototype for the upcoming Market Street Prototyping Festival that is taking place in San Francisco on Market Street and runs from April 9-11. Gregory will be collaborating with local San Francisco and former CCA students KIDmob. See below for a more accurate description of the course's goals.

KIDmob (a Bay Area organization founded by CCA Architecture alums) is the mobile, kid-integrated design firm, whose mission is to transform learning at the intersection of kids, community, and design. This studio's project will be to design KIDmob's deployable workshop environment (DWE), that produces an innovative space for kids and communities of all kinds. The studio will facilitate student-led design at multiple scales, including graphics, programming, interior layout, architectural, and urban implications. Through the studio's coursework, CCA students will work hands-on with KIDmob developing their first hand knowledge and deploy the DWE at the Market Street Prototyping Festival (http://marketstreetprototyping.org/), where over 300,000 spectators will be in attendance. In addition to the standard feedback/critique culture at CCA, students will also receive training by KIDmob's leadership team to become facilitators in their process, and put into action their skills at a series of middle schools in the Bay Area.

For the Winter Quarter of 2015, Gregory will be teaching Design 050, Intro to 3D Design at the University of California, Davis. 

This course will consists of three inter-related projects that each deal with 3D design in a fundamental way. While the scale and material of each project will change, there will be a consistency of theme relating to each of the projects. You will be required to consider each of these individual projects at a range of scales and through a range of conceptual lenses.
